A Galactic Rose880 viewsThe Rosette nebula (Sh2-275) is a large molecular cloud in the constellation Monoceros. The nebula is about 4-6 times the size of the full moon in our night sky. The cloud is mostly comprised of hydrogen gas and is illuminated from the group of hot, young stars near its center. The nebula lies some 5200 light years from the Earth. This image was taken from Alamogordo NM using a 100mm f7.2 refractor and a modified Canon 1000D (XS) DSLR.

The Rho Ophiuchi Nebulae IC 4604 and IC 4603876 viewsOn the border of Scorpius and Ophiuchus by Antares lies a complex region of dust, molecular clouds, and reflection nebula. In the center of this image is the triple star Rho Ophiuchi, which is surrounded by the blue reflection nebula IC 4604. Throughout the image large dust clouds are seen. To the right of IC 4604 is the smaller reflection nebula IC 4603. Image was acquired using a Takahashi Epsilon 180 f/2.8 astrograph and a modified Canon 40D DSLR camera on a Paramount. Images Plus 5.0 was used for calibration and stacking of the sub images. PixInsight 1.8 Ripley was used to process the image. Image was a total of 2 hours 40 minutes exposure (16 x 10 min lights, 13 darks, 64 flats, 64 flat darks).

NGC 2024 is a H-II region containing a vast cloud of dust, and is part of the Orion B Molecular Cloud Complex. A cluster of young stars is hidden by the dark dust lane. Image taken with an Astro-Physics 130 mm f8 refractor and SBIG ST2000xcm camera on an AP1200 mount: Total exposure 6 hr 40 min (80 x 5 min lights; 30 darks; 64 flats; 64 flat darks; 64 bias).

Messier 3866 viewsMessier 3 is a rich globular cluster found in the constellation Canes Venatici, which was discovered by Charles Messier in 1764. M3 is believed to contain over a half a million stars. The image was taken with a 130mm f/8 Astro-Physics refractor and a SBIG 2000xcm CCD camera on an Astro-Physics 1200 mount (with guiding). Total exposure was 56 minutes (28 x 120 sec lights; 34 darks; 64 flats; 64 flat darks; 64 bias).

62_Erato 849 views62 Erato is a large and dark, probably carbonaceous main-belt asteroid. It is a member of the Themis asteroid family.Erato is the first asteroid to have been credited with co-discoverers, Oskar Lesser and Wilhelm Forster, who discovered it on September 14, 1860 from the Berlin Observatory. It was their first and only asteroid discovery.
This image is a stack of 25 5 min exposures creating the line showing it's movement.

The Black Eye Galaxay849 viewsMessier 64, often called The Black Eye Galaxy due to the concentration of dark dust in the galaxies center, is found in the constellation Coma Berenices. Images by the Hubble Space Telescope suggest that there are many HII and star forming regions in this dusty part of the galaxy. The interstellar medium of M64 consists of two counter-rotating disks, whereas the stars exhibit no measurable counter rotation. The image was a total of 5 h 20 min exposure taken with a TeleVue 140 f/5 refractor and SBIG ST2000xcm CCD camera on an Astro-Physics 1200 mount (32 x 10 min lights @ -20 degrees; 20 darks; 64 flats; 64 bias). Sub-exposures taken on April 29th, May 21th, and May 27th 2014. Image acquisition with MaxIm DL 5 Pro; processed with PixInsight 1.8.2.1098 and Adobe Photoshop CC.

NGC 281849 viewsNGC 281 is an emission nebula in Cassiopeia discovered in 1881 by Edward E. Barnard while he was searching for comets with a 5-inch refractor. This image, which needs more exposure time, is through narrowband Oxygen[III] and Hydrogen alpha filters. The Oxygen and Hydrogen gas is ionized by the young cluster of stars in the center (IC 1590). Imaged with a Takahashi FSQ106ED; SBIG ST2000xm; Baader Filters; Paramount.

This photo, taken the morning of 14 Jul 2013, is composed of 19 one minute exposures (still having problems) taken with an 8" f5 reflector and a Canon 60Da camera on a CG-5 mount.

This galaxy is small compared to its big apparent neighbor, the Andromeda galaxy M31, and to our Milky Way galaxy, but is more of average size for spiral galaxies in the universe. The distance is approximately 3 million light years.
